Kunisaki Heritage Bike and Hike Itinerary

5 day 5 night  bike and hike tour. $1500. All meals and expenses included.



Distance is for bike ride. Hike is in hours. This is a standard tour for Japan Bike and Hike, and it can be arranged any time. It is generally not listed in the schedule, since it can be done almost anytime. (Trip itinerary is subject to reservations and seasonal weather conditions)

Day 1: From Start point Usa town, from the first morning.

Hike the Tsuwadou trail-then bike to Usa Shrine. Hike 4 to 5 hours on loop trail. Ride is 12 miles.  Stay at B&B Kiora Cottage in Yamaga town.

Day 2: Ride  to Kumano Mugaibutsu, the giant stone images, 10 "lumpy" miles. Hike the Noko Giri trail, then ride 10 miles to Fukinoto accommodations.

Day 3: Ride to Nakayama-senkyo trail, 15 "very lumpy" miles, and hike this fantastic trail. Then ride on to accommodations at Sato Gallery "Hanna," another 13 miles.

Day 4: Ride to ferry port and go to Himeshima island for a walk, then ride to start of trail to hike to Monjusenji Temple. Accommodations are at a 300 year old temple in the mountains. 10 mile bike and 5 hours forest/island hike.

Day 5: Morning hike on Monju mountain to Futagoji Temple. Then bike back to Fukinoto, and return to accommodation in Usa town. Hike of 5 hours, bike 16 miles.

Notes on The Kunisaki Heritage Tour

The bike is included in the tour price.

Seasonal conditions and booking availability may cause changes in accommodations or itinerary organization. The order of day's events may be changed to suit member travel plans and availability of accommodations. Weather may also influence daily events, as some hike trails are not suitable for travel during heavy rain or winds.

This tour is suitable for people in fair to moderate physical condition; normal group size is 2 to 6 people and one guide. It is considered "non-supported," since there is no carbon-footprint support vehicle following this tour! Be prepared to rough-it on the trails, but we do not "camp-out" in the evenings. 
All accommodations are local, authentic, and unique. This is as close to being Japanese as you can get without a permanent visa and a hair-cut.
